Hi, I’m Nicholas Wong, a Chinese Malaysian photographer based in Melbourne.
I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, and home has shaped the way I see. Warm light, food, colour, tiled shopfronts, family meals, night markets, humid streets, and small everyday details have all stayed with me. They show up in the way I photograph, especially in the warmth, patience, and attention I bring to my work.
I photograph food, fashion, portraits, events, and brands. Across all of it, I care about images that feel considered, honest, and full of life. I pay attention to the way light moves across a dish, how fabric falls, how a room feels, and how someone changes once they feel comfortable in front of the camera.
I work carefully, but I don’t want the process to feel stiff. A good shoot should feel calm, prepared, and collaborative. I believe people do their best in front of the camera when they feel respected, listened to, and given enough room to be themselves.
I shoot both digital and film, including 35mm and 120 film, using Leica M, Canon R and EF, and Hasselblad 500C/M systems. I’ve built my kit gradually over the years, choosing tools that suit the way I work. Digital gives me speed, precision, and flexibility. Film gives me texture, patience, and a slower way of looking. I choose the format based on what the shoot needs.
I was formally trained in photography, and I bring that foundation into every project. Light, colour, composition, timing, and consistency matter to me. So does trust. I want clients to know I’ll show up prepared, listen properly, and treat their work with care.
